Dear friends,

In the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition, when one’s teacher is ill, we can request great lamas to compose special prayers that invoke the blessings of the Three Jewels to increase the life of our teacher. Or if our teacher has the ability from meditation to increase his own life then the prayer will invoke upon the compassion of the teacher to extend his own life. By reciting the prayer we generate a field of merit for the lama to live either way. So these prayers from high lamas written to invoke the power and blessings to increase one’s lama’s life is highly sought after and recited daily for one’s teacher.

I have been ill and it has been serious. My students have requested His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche to compose a long life prayer to be recited to generate merits for my long life and Dharma works to grow. They have also requested the grand Abbot Emeritus (Ex Abbot) Kensur Rinpoche Konchok Tsering of Gaden Shartse Monastery to compose the same. Both His Holiness and Kensur Rinpoche agreed immediately. How kind of them both. Both these lamas are very famous and renowned masters within the Tibetan Tradition. Both have written prayers to invoke blessings to increase my life.

How honoured, humbled and amazed I am. I am grateful to these two very high lamas to take their time to compose something to increase my life. I have not done much and yet they both feel my life is worth extending. I fold my hands humbly to His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche. I was told by senior monks that my previous life’s root teacher was H.H. Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche’s previous incarnation! Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche is one with Vajra Yogini and with his golden hands wrote this precious prayer. I prostrate to Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche.

I also humbly thank from the bottom of my heart the great spiritual master of Gaden Shartse Monastery, His Eminence Kensur Rinpoche Konchok Tsering for composing this prayer that is filled with blessings. Kensur Rinpoche is a very kind, humble and great teacher of Gaden Shartse Monastery who tirelessly conveys the Dharma to hundreds of monks. He has hundreds of students and due to his kindness the students have matured in their studies and have become teachers themselves. Kensur Rinpoche is the perfect example of kindness, knowledge, practice and compassion rolled into one great master. I fold my hands to Kensur Rinpoche for his blessings towards myself who is not worthy of his time.

The prayers (either one) are designed to be recited daily by students, well wishers, friends and or those karmically connected with myself. The prayers have power due to the two illustrious authors’ blessings.

Tsem Rinpoche

H.H. Kyabje Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche

This prayer was composed by His Holiness Kyabje Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche. He was born 15 October 1982, and is the current reincarnation of the late Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang.

Kyabje Trijang Dorje Chang was a direct disciple to Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche, and was also the junior tutor and spiritual guide of the 14th Dalai Lama. In addition to this, he was also the root guru of many Gelug lamas, one of which includes my root guru, Zong Rinpoche.

His reincarnation, Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche, was discovered in a Tibetan family in Northern India. On 23 April 1985, when Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche was just 4 years old, he was officially recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He completed his studies under his root guru Kyabje Lati Rinpoche and other incredible teachers of our time.

Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche is the founder and spiritual guide of Trijang Buddhist Institute in Vermont, United States.

H.E. Kensur Rinpoche Konchok Tsering

This prayer was composed by the erudite scholar and Buddhist master, H.E. Kensur Rinpoche Konchok Tsering. Kensur Rinpoche is the Abbot-Emeritus of Gaden Shartse and is well known for his mastery of Buddhist study and teaching.

Kensur Rinpoche was born in 1934 in Markham, Tibet. At the age of 13, he became ordained as a monk in his own hometown monastery. Upon turning 17, he went to Gaden Shartse Monastery in Lhasa, and studied there until the Chinese Occupation in 1959, when Kensur Rinpoche then moved to India.

In 1980, Kensur Rinpoche received his Geshe Larampa title, and thereafter joined the Gyuto Tantric College in 1985 to study. In 1989, he was appointed as one of the official teachers in Gaden Shartse Monastery.

In 1996, Kensur Rinpoche was appointed Abbot of Gaden Shartse Monastery. He continued to serve as abbot for the next 5 years, until 2001.

Having begun his education decades ago in old Tibet, Kensur Rinpoche is a highly revered teacher of both Sutra and Tantra, holding a life-long devotion and commitment to the way of the Dharma.

Kensur Rinpoche is one of the old masters who brought the teachings and practice from Tibet to India in the 1960s, and as a former abbot, was instrumental in reestablishing the grandeur of Gaden Shartse Monastery in its new home in South India. To this day, Kensur Rinpoche still continues to teach, creating a whole new generation of highly qualified, committed practitioners and teachers. One of his students include Zong Choktrul Rinpoche.

This is such a wonderful long life prayer composed by one of greatest lamas Trijang Rinpoche to Tsem Rinpoche. In Tsem Rinpoche and Trijang Rinpoche’s previous lives, Tsem Rinpoche (Kentrul Thubten Lamsang) was a heart son of Trijang Rinpoche.
Kentrul Thubten Lamsang was sent to a remote area called Phari to spread Dharma following the instruction of Trijang Rinpoche.

When the Chinese invaded Tibet, Kentrul Thubten Lamsang did not leave Phari but chose to enter into clear light because he did not receive the instruction from Trijang Rinpoche to leave. He has kept his promise to his teacher. Tsem Rinpoche exhibits a strong guru devotion not only in this life, but in his previous life also.

A highly reincarnated and attained lama will always do what they have been doing in their previous lives because that is what they aspire to do. Tsem Rinpoche in his many previous lives had been a Dharma teacher, he built monasteries and constructed many Buddha statues. He was very compassionate towards his students. In this life, Tsem Rinpoche is also the same. He started Kechara with nothing and today Kechara is the biggest Vajrayana Buddhist centre in Malaysia. Many people have benefitted from Tsem Rinpoche.

I feel happy on this articles. I would like to thanks H.H Trijang Rinpoche and Kensur Rinpoche for their kindness to my Guru Tsem Rinpoche. The prayers to invoke blessing of Three Jewels to increase my guru’s life is really benefit to many sentient beings. Tsem Tulku Rinpocher’s teachings is well known by many people via many channels especially through Rinpoche blog tsemrinpoche.com.
I always dedicated merits (my sadhana)to wish Tsem Rinpoche life long and turn dharma wheel.

Great Masters like Trijang Rinpoche and Kensur Rinpoche Konchok Tsering will only take action that is Dharma in nature and benefits all sentient beings. If these great masters wrote the beautiful prayers above for Tsem Rinpoche’s life to be stable and long, it can only mean that Tsem Rinpoche is the “Supreme Spiritual Guide” of our time and that it is important for Rinpoche to live long to benefit many sentient beings.

We are also very blessed to witness the “coming together” of great Dharma masters in this single post. During our degenerate age, holiness is rare as we our awareness is hindered by much distractions. Thank you Rinpoche for sharing this post and the beautiful prayers!

I pray that Rinpoche will live long and continue to turn the Wheel of Dharma!!

My Holy Eminence and Excellent teacher, Ill? well, I don’t internet surf everyday, its new to me, maybe I missed this sad news or the Holy Sweetest and Eminent Lama did not want to bother us, astray far away in this world, ‘to care’. Truly the latest pictures in the beach, where the once skinny Dharma Prince of Mongolia appeared
‘so fat’, made me wonder…Is he unhappy? without love? Could it be Malaysias muslim environment that so much oppressed our subtle Master? You know, I hope, that I myself, so miserable and ignorant,
had to flee the terrible and envious gangcheannettes from Rio (others from other places here in Brazil, ‘aren’t better’), so that maybe ‘teaching women’ proved too much even for our most patient and
mercifull Great Teacher ! How to know? It doesn’t matter, this is not (our Planet) a Lightfull place, nowhere and everywhere. All
who challenge darkness face to face, who slander opression direct
in its roots, have – in a strange sense – maybe, ‘to pay a price’.
Yet I don’t feel this (illness) is too serious. Our Gracious and
Clearest Eminence is young, and has overcome more than once,
hurdles and byways ‘of this life’. I’m sure the full Light and Health of this Excellent Source will very soon flow unhindered
forward again, with Love enough to wash each and every piece of sorrow/suffering, definetly away !

“We deciples, possessed by the demon of ignorance,
Have been disrespectful, and always seeing ordinary appearances
We lose faith, misunderstanding and do not accomplish your instructions
From our hearts we truly beg your forgiveness! May we delight you!”

This verse struck out most to me and I would contemplate on it and do my best to serve my guru. May he live long and benefit more sentient beings.

First, i folded my hands to thank H.E. Kensur Rinpoche Konchok Tsering and H.H. Kyabje Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche; thank you for their kindness wrote such precious long life prayer to our Guru, the Kechara House spiritual guidance.

As Rinpoche student we are so lucky that we have two high lama help us to request our Guru extend his life to benefit all of us.

I feel so honour and rejoice, because of them our Guru life will be blessed and health will be protected.

Again the two respectful high lama: H.E. Kensur Rinpoche Konchok Tsering and H.H. Kyabje Trijang Choktrul Rinpoche!!!!!!

one thing my wife and i know if children do not drink coca cola no matter if they thing they are filter of humaninty it is better not to drink coca cola no matter the desire for fund raising or other desirous matters, the same can be said for the drinking of beer or the smoking of cigarettes

Wow how very kind are these two lamas to have written the long life prayers for us. Kyabjye Trijang Rinpoche is truly one of the greats of Gelugpa tradition. He was also from Gaden Monastery like our lama. Trijang Rinpoche’s previous incarnation served as the Junior tutor to the current Dalai Lama. Trijang Rinpoche so many illustrious students spreading the dharma all over the world and he also was also a holder of many precious Gelugpa lineages. Thank you Beng Kooi for requesting for the long life prayer. May His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche body remain immutable like a vajra.

The prayers was written with such love and humility. The blessings and love of these 2 Great Lamas for our humble Guru, Tsem Tulku Rinpoche are felt when I read the prayers. May we all never be separated from the precious 3 Jewels and our Guru. May we all be able to receive and be in Dharma in every life until we attain Nirvana.   Very well said. Even just online I started my path with Rinpoche. I need him to complete it. And that would include helping Kechara. I need to do work for them/him. Very glad HH Trijang Rinpoche wrote this letter. I always pray for Rinpoche’s health. It’s essential in these degenerate times — his dharma work spreads so quickly. That is very rare, and precious. For him to enter a new body, and pick up where his dharma worked left off with years of training, with the same troubles as earlier in his current life, we can’t let happen unless it’s inevitable/necessary. Hopefully in at least twice his current age.

  You said it KT! Yes each day Rinpoche is alive someone is benefitted, directly or indirectly and you know what… I think Rinpoche will still continue to benefit thousands even after Rinpoche is gone… because… Rinpoche is not just here for NOW… but past, present and future and through the many buildings, institutes he has created in the past, and so we have the present and future… hence KFR. Whatever the case, we can rest assured Rinpoche is here not coincidentally, but with a HUGE PURPOSE which I am most certain and as always will leave a mark, an impact that will shape the future!
